EMPLOYMENT LAWS & PROTECTIONS (Federal & Michigan)
Inclusive employment is supported by long-standing federal and state civil rights laws. The purpose of these laws is to ensure qualified individuals with disabilities have fair access to employment opportunities and reasonable workplace support.
Federal Law (ADA – Title I)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) generally prohibits disability discrimination for covered employers (typically those with 15 or more employees). It also requires reasonable accommodations when needed, unless doing so would cause undue hardship.
Michigan Law (PWDCRA)
Michigan’s Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act (PWDCRA) provides protections against disability discrimination in employment and supports fair opportunity based on a person’s ability to perform the job.
Practical note for employers
Many accommodations are simple and low-cost. When needed, we help support clear communication and problem-solving so job expectations remain strong while employees can succeed.
